" So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, lest I should be exalted above worth. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:7-9
What was Paul's affliction? Perhaps we'll never until that day. Its hard for some people to understand addictions, spiritually and physically unhealthy vices.
There are so many things we never give much thought for if we haven't been exposed to it much. Drugs, drinking, pornography, video games, tattoos, even foods are typically among the most well known addictions which cause an immeasurable amount of damage to both body and soul.
Getting to a place where these thorns in our flesh no longer phase us is a challenge beyond comprehension for anyone who has never dealt with such things. The world would have you believe ridiculous ideas like "once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic" ... These philosophies are deliberate designs to encourage people to make excuses and justifications for their behaviors and choices.
When an individual acts foolish in public, then speaks up with "Oh I've been diagnosed as ... " whatever the case may be. That person is convinced by a likely false diagnoses that its ok for them to behave however they want without any concern for consequences. Out of a hundred children who are said to have issues like "Attention Deficit" or other such medical terms, perhaps only a handful actually have a genuine problem.
This opens up another discussion regarding prescription poison pills that I'm not going in to right now. The point is that we have taken ourselves away from simply being responsible for our own actions.
My favorite line recently is "This is no accident"
Society has been conditioned so badly to depend on afflictions as an excuse to be lazy. To put forth no self effort without the created need for rehabilitation or treatment. Both of which use us as lab rats and medical experimentation.
Certainly good results happen in many cases, but that's just a test score for science. Even justice can be served if enough money is involved. What I'm getting at here is that the system is not, nor has it ever been designed to help mankind. Just as Satan will reveal truth when it serves his purpose, so will the Elite forces allow personal triumphs among the peasants, so to speak ...
Some success stories are of course God's work. However, we have lost the ability to know the difference between a blessing and a provision that serves an evil agenda. Meaning a good job might very well be a gift from God, but the nice new 50,000 dollar car you were able to purchase is not ...
Many of our choices are based on simple greed or meaningless wants. Many of our actions are based on the excuse that we need things that we really don't. Like pills, like street drugs, like pornography, like school and therapy, and so on.
We punish our children by letting someone else tell us they must be pumped up with medicines for merely being perfectly normal. We let our afflictions control us and use them as a crutch when they are many times meant as a teacher to guide and humble us ...
We live in a society where "thorns in the flesh" are advertised as pleasures, lifestyles then become reasons to seek worldly counsel rather than Godly wisdom ...
That is the most damning affliction of all.
