1 Thessalonians 5:17-19 "Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit."
In the previous message about prayer I spoke of peace and keeping a guard up. Well how do we do that? We pray unceasingly, keeping uninterrupted fellowship with God with perseverance (Romans 12:12) and with a strong spirit (Ephesians 6:18) ...
Paul charges us in Thessalonians to pray without ceasing. We eat and drink several times a day, but we cannot do so without ceasing. But, we certainly breathe unceasingly. Paul's command that we pray without ceasing implies that unceasing prayer is like breathing. Praying is our spiritual breathing. Doing this requires that we call on the Lord continually in everything we do. This is the way to breathe, to pray without ceasing. As a modernized and indoctrinated people we are not accustomed to this. We must practice calling upon the Lords name all the time. To live is to breathe. Spiritually speaking praying is breathing. By calling on God we breathe His spirit
Sudden outbursts of popular expressions in vain such as "Oh My God" (OMG) or even "Christ Almighty" or the famous "God help me" or telling God to damn something, are offensive to God. These are not ways of calling to Him genuinely. They break His commandment and His heart ....
Colossians 4:2 "Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving" ... This also mean to to be watchful of ourselves as much as others and to be thankful in part of our day ...
After Paul charges us to pray without ceasing and to give thanks in everything, as was mentioned in my previous prayer message, he tells us not to quench the Spirit. This indicates that if we fail to pray and express our gratitude towards God, we quench the Spirit. A fire needs air to breathe. The spirit in us is to be kept burning if we are to be as a candle in the darkness to those around us. Failing to keep in consistent communication with God deprives the Holy Ghost Fire of that air, thereby to quench the Spirit is to cease from breathing ....
All day long, wherever we are and what ever we are doing, we need to call on The Lord. In every situation good or bad. Even if you might be about to lose your temper. By calling on God, you live and breathe in Christ. If you simply make up your own mind to hold your temper, you will be defeated still. It will become worse and will build up inside until another time when your outburst could be much worse. Instead of merely trying to control your temper, turn your focus to God in that moment. Ask Him to be with in this time of anger. If you do this you will saved from your temper, given peace and be able to live and breathe this moment in the Spirit of Christ and you will be blessed for it accordingly ...
The devil never ceases, nor should we!
