Genesis 3:6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat ...
Ouch! We've known the way of sin for thousands of years. Yet we sometimes still follow the same path. We're lured by something pleasing to our eyes. We pause for closer inspection of it, allowing ourselves to be caught up in its desirability. We dabble in it and play with it. We then participate in the sin. Finally, we involve others in sin. You'd think we would have learned the pattern and would have stopped by now ...
So many who have been made aware of certain truths still continue in their ways without any consideration for how it makes God feel or for what it does to their soul. Such as buying products flavored by companies using aborted fetal cells, celebrating pagan holidays or even allowing our children to stare at television and play video games for hours on end just because it keeps them quiet ... all these things are very pleasant and sounds very nice on the immediate surface, but what about the end results?
I recently titled a message "Beware The Sirens Call" but failed to include the fact that I have rarely witnessed the observation or speculation that perhaps Satan chose Eve first because of the ease in which men could be seduced by a women's wiles and sensitivities. None of us in the true sense of manhood could honestly deny this fact.
The point is that we all, men and women alike, are too easily lured by the beauty of evil and then we become trapped in it's grasp. This goes for anything from addictive behavior to bad habits to TV programs and other forms of entertainment that bear very negative influences in both adults and children ...
Ultimately keeping us distracted from time with God and also keeping us satisfied with one half hour Sunday morning sermon a week with no strings attached. This obviously varies from person to person and from church to church, but the point still stands that we do not allow righteousness to influence our lives nearly enough. This leaves many opening for the devil to throw obstacles in our paths keeping us "happy and content" as we exist in a spiritual dormancy virtually untouched and in the end unacceptable to God
What we blindly find nourishing and pleasant, including lies told to cover up the truth, will be our eternal undoing ...
