Romans 16:1-5 (KJV)
I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also. Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.
According to the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance every Hebrew translation for the term "Servant" is in reference to men in their duties. It is the Greek translation from *Romans 16:1* that suddenly throws in "Deaconess" into so many false bible translations as their definition for servant in reference to a congregation. Their definition helped to distort the true meaning of what a women's role in the church is. As it continues in verse 2 she is referred to as a "succourer" meaning "assistant" or "helper" perhaps of ministry ... she was never put into any leadership role over people in general, she was only well respected and was honored with a position of "receiving help" when needed.
It also goes on to talk about Priscilla and Aquila who were also helpers and who appear to have had a ministry from within their own home. In *Acts 18*, Priscilla and Aquila are presented as faithful ministers for Christ. Priscilla's name is mentioned first, perhaps indicating that she was more “prominent” in ministry than her husband. However, Priscilla is nowhere described as participating in a ministry activity that is in contradiction to *1st Timothy 2:11-14.* Priscilla and Aquila brought Apollos into their home and they "both" discipled him, explaining the Word of God to him more accurately (Acts 18:26) Which is something that is encouraged in Scripture to do and we have become very lacking in that ...
If more people would simply learn to study deeper into the truth, stop listening to what man says, drop their stubborn spirits (giving Satan more power) and use their heads for something other than remembering what time their favorite TV programs are on, be more willing and open to learning what God's will is (not just in this area either) then maybe some of this fast growing corruption can be brought down to a minimum and these so called Christians can actually become God's people!
