Genesis 1:26: "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
There are many issues about pollution and the destruction of our planet which I could cover in this, but I am only going to make a few mentions here ...
While we are creatures made by a loving Creator, we are so much more than animals. There is something distinctive and special about a human being compared with the rest of creation. God made us to rule over the animal world. But rule does not mean ruin!
Since creation is part of God's testimony to himself (*Psalm 19*), then we certainly ought not wish to ruin that testimony. In fact, being made in God's likeness, we ought to rule with the grace, benevolence, and care that God himself uses ...
Tho many people think of benevolence as something that should give them cause to be lifted up, putting them above others ... (The Pope, is a prime example) As well the Natives of this land may have been a pagan culture, but they had a better take on Creation than most of us Christians ever did ...
Romans 1:20 States: "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse" ...
Just as there is no excuse beyond man's limited thinking for continually trying to undermine God by destroying His works and replacing it with our own. All the progress we think to have made has done nothing for the Glory of God. It has only diminished our natural habitat, our minds, it robs us of the knowledge to survive without man designed assistance programs and much of what we see around us contributes to the works of Satan's iniquity ...
Unfortunately we are abusing the land having so much garbage and waste piled into landfills. Many of us who are against such things are trapped using the same system which causes these dilemmas because we can no longer simply live off the land what with it all being in the government's possession now. I do not say that the killing (proper hunting) of animals is wrong. I am no vegetarian. They are here for us to watch over and also for us to eat, but when we have men out on the waters cutting the fins off of sharks and dolphins, then throwing them back into the ocean still alive, that is pure evil! I personally do not believe its justified by God that we boil lobsters alive either. Poachers and others of the like are not interested in food, they are only in it for the greed, prize and the money. God certainly frowns upon these horrible acts!
So the next time you drop trash on the ground, do something cruel to an animal (Proverbs 12:10) or put a "Winter Solstice" tree in your house (even a fake one, which is an idol ... Jeremiah 10) or see someone else doing it, just think of how much that pains God!
