Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;" Isaiah 1:16
"Cleanliness is next to godliness. If you can't take care of what you have how can you expect God to give you something better?"
This age old idea refers to more than just keeping a clean home, clean body, workplace or car, even the kid's bedroom and the yard. It also means the way you handle your life and the circumstances you land in. Some people create their own problems. Others it just seems like trouble follows them. Nobody can escape life's messes. But God watches how you deal with them.
We live in an age where filth and sin is portrayed everywhere we look. Immorality is encouraged, flaunted and especially dragged into both the homes and the churches where it has no place among God's people.
"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." Psalm 51:7
Unfortunately we are taught to decide for ourselves what is okay for our own lives and what is not. Whether they be habits, possessions, music, hobbies or how we treat others. We are told that it's up to is and between us and God. Well the latter is true enough, however, we are no longer instructed on how to decide. We are simply given the freedom (from the pulpit) to choose for ourselves. Granted we still must make a choice, but we lack proper biblical instruction, and that leaves us ignorant and without conviction, without guidance ...
I know for myself, people can really make me angry. Their behaviors and dishonesty gets to me heavily at times. I never like using the excuse that Im only human ...
I thought the loss of my marriage had really mellowed me out, but there are still occasions when a bad spirit can get on me. Of course Im not so much temperamental as I am just a little mouthy and I can still cop an attitude ... usually for the right reasons, but in the wrong manner.
" If I wash myself with snow water and make my hands never so clean" Job 9:30
Imagine how shocking it might seem to witness a man of peace suddenly become overly aggressive, or ujustly violent. All of us are tested with such moments. Some more than others.
So ultimately cleanliness is more holiness by the way we live, behave and appear to others. The surface is easy for people to judge, but how would God judge you?
